Sony to cut 2,000 Jobs in Japan | So the Global Economy is Recovering, right?


TNI Bureau: Sony Corp announced that it will cut jobs of around 2,000 staff at its headquarters in Japan. Recently the company revealed this plan providing new details of a previously announced plan to trim its global headcount by 10,000 by end-March. The company will also close one of its factories produces camera lenses and mobile phones in Japan. Earlier Sony had severed job of around 1,800 at a chemical business it sold to a state-run bank in Japan. Sony will let go roughly another 2,000 people from its head office and plant in Gifu, central Japan, Sony said in a statement on Friday – reported REUTERS.
The company also plans to trim another 2,000 workers in Europe and the remaining job shakings will occur at other factories of Sony around the world. Sony is struggling in televisions and other consumer electronics operations and it expects to save about 30 billion yen (235.7 million pounds) a year from the job drops. Sony is the maker of PlayStation and Bravia TVs. It plans to regain its position through bolstering gaming, digital imaging and mobile devices as well as by nurturing new business such as medical devices.
