Q & A / Response to a reader’s question on the Gap Theory of Biblical Creation

http://apocalypse2010.blogspot.com/2009/05/gap-theory-of-biblical-creation.html / quote from the abovementioned article 'This civilization or civilizations was inhabited by both corporeal and ethereal beings; humans and angels as well as mutants, hybrids, reptilians, so-called aliens and other fantastic creatures frequently found in mythology and science fiction'.

My question: Gen 1v27 - man & woman being created in His Image.... I have always understood the human race to be the Adamic race - where God created us in His Image. From what you write, I understand you to mean that 'humans' might have existed before God created the world before Adam....I fully believe a separate world did exist just between Gen 1v1 and v 2, however, I have a 'block' on only this 1 word, 'human'. If you find time, please try to explain this to me.

Answer: In response to the above question let me say first of all that Gen. 1:27 does not, repeat, does not state that the man and the woman were created in God’s image, the exact wording of this scripture is as follows: Gen. 1:27, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”. The only one created in the image of God was the ‘Him’ not the male and the female. This ‘Him’ is not referring to Adam but rather to Jesus Christ as proven by Heb. 1:3, that Jesus is the EXPRESS IMAGE, an exact duplicate, literally a clone of God, which of course makes Him God. Adam was not God; Adam was not even close to being anything like God and therefore did not bear his image.

The confusion about man being created in the image of God stems from the fact that people assume that image is referring to physical appearance when biblically speaking image has nothing whatsoever to do with the body. God is a Spirit not a flesh and blood being; he does not have two hands and two legs, two eyes etc. that people assume he does. The only image that God was interested in man acquiring was His Spiritual image, His character not a bodily shape. The biblical definition of the word IMAGE is CHARACTER. Hebrews 1:3 states in regards to Jesus, “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person…” The word ‘Image’ in this scripture is the Greek word Charakter from which the English word Character has been transliterated. God created man to one day become identical in character to Him but it was not until Jesus Christ arose from the dead that man, any man actually bore the image of God. The entire history of creation points to the creation of a being that would be identical in character to God; such a creature would be worthy of inheriting God’s Kingdom, the eternal Kingdom that has not yet been created. The beginning of God’s creation Jesus Christ is that man, certainly not Adam or any of his physical progeny; only the resurrected Jesus Christ.

As to the question of human existence prior to Adam, that too can be addressed in the affirmative by a careful study of scripture. Job 38 is a series of questions that the Lord God quizzed Job with and to which Job had no answers. One of the questions in that series takes us back to the time of the laying of the foundation of the Earth; at that time according to God the ‘morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy’. This verse of scripture helps a great deal in accurately determining the chronology of creation because it proves that intelligent life was already present in the Cosmos even before the Earth was created. The intelligent life that was then present was the morning stars (angels), and the sons of God (humans.) Comparing scripture to scripture we can conclude that the sons of God were men and not angels or any other type of ethereal beings. Proverbs 8 is a monologue by Wisdom personified; in this dialogue we find a description of the same ancient time as Job 38:4, the time of the laying of the foundations of the Earth. However in Prov. 8:31 we can read clearly that the creatures present at that ancient time were MEN; Prov. 8:31, ‘Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men’. Whereas Job 38 tells us that the sons of God were shouting for joy at the sight of this monumental creation of the Earth that was being prepared for their habitation, the book of Proverbs identifies these creatures as MEN.

Therefore it is safe to conclude that the sons of God are men, humans that predate the creation of much of the present day universe. Now this revelation turns the theory of evolution right on its ears does it not? Isa 45:18 tells us that God created the Earth to be inhabited and since we find men inhabiting it right from its foundations it stands to reason that these men are not the children of Adam who arrived on the scene at a much later date. Besides angels are not corporeal beings and therefore do not require a corporeal abode such as the Earth. Therefore it is logical to conclude that the corporeal Earth must have been created for corporeal beings but if Adam and his children were not the first inhabitants of the corporeal Earth then it must have been other humans, namely the sons of God first encountered in the bible in Genesis, chapter 6. If the sons of God were truly corporeal humans then it becomes easy to understand their physical relations with the daughters of Adam, and their ability to produce offspring with them. So we can safely conclude with biblical authority that the pre–Adamite world was indeed inhabited by corporeal humans, and there is a distinct possibility that such humans that are not descended from Adam may still be inhabiting the heavens.

When parsed carefully and prayerfully the bible is a treasure house of knowledge and wisdom that may be found nowhere else on this planet. Even the history of the planet and of the Cosmos may only be accurately gleaned by a careful study of scripture. More nuggets to come as we progress through this series on the history of creation.
